Narrow Groove Welding
Narrow groove welding has attracted the attention of fabricators and specifiers of thick-wall pipe and vessels through the world. “Narrow groove” describes a weld joint usually less than 1/2” (13 mm) wide, and from 1" to 12" (25,4 mm to 304,8 mm) deep. The reason for the interest is the low heat input which reduces both hoop shrinkage and residual stresses in the pipe. Arc Machines has designed and developed specialized equipment for narrow gap welding for more than 20 years. Arc Machines narrow gap torches feature torch and wire oscillation to provide superior sidewall fusion when compared to other, simpler, systems. These torches also feature advanced patented vision systems for viewing the welding operation in locations, such as the narrow gap groove, where physical access is difficult or impossible.
