Butt Welding with Filler Material
Butt welding with filler wire is commonly used in Power Generation, both fossil and nuclear. Other applications are: shipboard piping, refineries and other petrochemical welding and for offshore platforms. Orbital pipe welding is particularly suitable for welding materials such as austenitic, duplex and superduplex stainless steels as well as titanium. This is because, once acceptable welding procedures have been established, the power supplies deliver exactly the same parameters weld after weld resulting in favorable metallurgical properties. Welds performed for these applications must meet very stringent code requirements which demand the highest weld quality.
