Giving in-house welders training and certification in specialized orbital welding techniques has produced immediate dividends for Lambton Generation station. Initial savings are projected to reach $3.8 million, and even more promising results are expected, because the productivity of the workers is increasing.
For example, the weld completion rate at the beginning of the first job was 20 per day. But by the end of the project, the productivity had jumped up to 39 per day, a pace that allowed the project to be completed without any extended outage time. Better still, there is now the potential to generate revenue by making the newly acquired skills of the welders available to other companies.
Below: A letter of appreciation to Arc Machines, Inc., from Gilbert Poon, Senior Engineer - Specialist, Welding & Technical Services, OPG-EP.
